HTC One X Runs on Android ICS 4.04 and with Jelly Bean Promised

HTC has started rolling out an update to HTC One X handsets that brings Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.04 as well as a tweaked version of the Sense interface to the phone.

A spokesman for HTC confirmed the rollout would begin on Friday in the UK, but that timings for other regions would vary.

"The primary update will include an upgrade to Android version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), in addition to an improved Sense experience which will enable the ability to map menu functions to the 'recent app' key — improving visual presentation in non-ICS apps like Facebook — and improve tab management in the browser with a dedicated tab-switching button," HTC said in a statement.

Other improvements include refined white balance and a continuous auto-focus mode for the camera as well as a single sign-on for Facebook across websites and apps. The company also said it brought improvements to the Beats Audio software, but did not provide details of the upgrades.

While the update might not be the Jelly Bean upgrade that owners were hoping for, a spokeswoman for HTC confirmed that the Jelly Bean 4.1 update is still planned for the device.

"At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean," HTC said. "While our goal is to bring the latest software updates to as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone's performance and usability first."
